Luigi Volta (born July 27, 1876 in Como , † October 7, 1952 in Milan ) was an Italian astronomer and asteroid discoverer.
In 1898 he completed his studies in mathematics at the University of Pavia and then worked at the observatories in Milan , Turin and Heidelberg . In 1925 he was appointed professor at the University of Turin and took over the management of the observatory there . There he discovered a total of 5 asteroids between 1928 and 1934 . In 1941 he moved to Milan and took over the management of the Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera in Brera and Merate until he retired in 1951.
Volta was for many years the president of the Italian Astronomical Society (Società Astronomica Italiana) .
