Luis Alberto Cárdenas López (born September 15, 1993 in Los Mochis , Sinaloa ) is a Mexican football player on the position of goalkeeper .

López was trained in the junior division of CF Monterrey , whose various junior and reserve teams he went through and was included in the first team squad for the first time in the 2013 Apertura . However, he did not get beyond a use in the Copa México . He had to wait until the 2016 Clausura before his first appearance in the top Mexican division . In order to gain match practice, Cárdenas was loaned to the second division Atlético Zacatepec in the 2017/18 season and then to the league rivals Querétaro FC for a half season ( Apertura 2018 ) .

The biggest hour of the keeper, who is still largely inexperienced in top football, came at the FIFA Club World Cup 2019 , when he was allowed to keep the goal for the Rayados instead of the experienced goalkeeper Marcelo Barovero . After a "last-minute defeat" against eventual tournament winners Liverpool FC in the semi-finals, Cárdenas was awarded the Alibaba Cloud Match Award for the best player of the game in the game for third place against al-Hilal for his outstanding performance . After the game ended 2-2, a penalty shoot-out was necessary, in which the "match winner" initially blocked two shots and converted the last shot himself into a 4-3 win for his team.
