Luis Enrique Cessa (born April 25, 1992 in Cordoba , Veracruz ) is a Mexican baseball player . He has played for the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a pitcher since 2016 .
Career
Cessa signed with the New York Mets as a free agent in July 2008 . He made his professional debut in 2009 with the Dominican Summer League Mets . Cessa was a shortstop in its first two seasons . He has been playing as a pitcher since 2011 . On July 31, 2015, the Mets traded Cessa and Michael Fulmer for Yoenis Céspedes of the Detroit Tigers . He was added to the Tigers' 40-man roster after the season. On December 9, 2015, the Tigers traded Cessa and Chad Green for Justin Wilson of the New York Yankees .
2016
Cessa was inducted into the Yankees' Opening Day roster in 2016. He made his major league debut on April 8th. He threw two innings, allowed two hits , a home run and scored two strikeouts . Cessa spent the rest of the season between the Yankees and the Triple-A Team Scranton / Wilkes-Barre RailRiders .
2017
Cessa started the season with Scranton / Wilkes-Barre RailRiders before being called up to join the Yankees in June. In August, Cessa was placed on the Disabled List after a chest injury ended his season prematurely.
2018
Cessa spent most of the season back with the Scranton / Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and was used by the Yankees in the Major League in various roles. Cessa started 5 games and finished 6 for the Yankees. In doing so, he scored a pair of three inning saves.
