Luis Nishizawa Flores (born February 2, 1918 in Cuautitlán , México , † September 29, 2014 in Toluca , México) was a Mexican artist.

biography

Nishizawa was born in 1918 to the Japanese Kenji Nishizawa from Nagano and the Mexican María de Jesús Flores. From 1942 he studied at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (ENAP) of the UNAM , which emerged from the Academia de San Carlos , and then continued his education in Japan in the form of courses in the field of ceramics and sculpture . In 1951 he had his first solo exhibition in Mexico.

From 1955 he lectured at ENAP, but he did not feel that the task alone was being used to full capacity. He is one of the most important Mexican landscape painters . His style moves between realism , abstract expressionism and poetic realism. In addition to painting and wall painting , he also dealt with wood painting and sculpture. In 1987 he became a member of the Academia de Artes . Most recently he taught and worked in Toluca, where he had converted an 18th century house into a museum and studio.
