Luis Vega (mathematician)
Luis Vega (born July 16, 1960 ) is a Spanish mathematician who studies Partial Differential Equations (PDE).
Vega studied at the Complutense University of Madrid with a bachelor's degree in 1982 and received his doctorate in 1988 from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) with Antonio Barba (El multiplicador de Shrödinger la función maximal y los operadores de restricción). As a post-graduate student , he was a Dickson Instructor at the University of Chicago . He taught at the UAM (assistant professor) until 1993 and then at the University of the Basque Country , where he received a full professorship in 1995. He is the Scientific Director of the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM).
From 2000 to 2008 he was a regular visiting professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara . In 1988 and 1997 he was a member of the MSRI . In 2004 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study and he was visiting professor in Paris (University of Paris 12 and 13, École normal supérieure , École polytechnique , Institut Henri Poincaré ), at the University of Cergy-Pontoise, in Pisa (Ennio de Giorgio Center, University of Pisa ) and at the University of Washington .
He is co-editor of the Journal of Evolution Equations and the Journal of Fourier Analysis and its Applications and editor of La Revista Matemática Iberoamericana (since 2011).
He is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and received the Premio Euskadi de Investigación in 2012 and the Blaise Pascal Medal in 2015 . In 2006 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Madrid (The initial value problem for nonlinear Schrödinger equations).
