Luis Yáñez-Barnuevo García (born April 12, 1943 in Coria del Río ) is a Spanish doctor and politician of the socialist party PSOE . He is a member of the European Parliament .

Life

After studying medicine and surgery, which he graduated in 1967, Yáñez-Barnuevo received his doctorate in gynecology in 1970 . From 1971 he was resident gynecologist in Seville , from 1974 head of the gynecological ward in Málaga .

Politically, he joined the PSOE party, which was banned at the time, during the Franco dictatorship , whose leadership in Seville also included Felipe González and Alfonso Guerra . During the transition to democracy , Yáñez-Barnuevo was responsible for international relations on the PSOE board from 1975 to 1979. 1980 to 1985 he was chairman of the party in the Andalusia region .

In the first democratic parliamentary elections in 1977 , Yáñez-Barnuevo was elected to the Spanish House of Representatives, to which he was a member until 2000. During the reign of Felipe González , he was State Secretary for International Cooperation and Ibero America from 1985 to 1991 . From 1991 he was also a member of the Seville City Council, where he was spokesman for the PSOE faction.

From 1999 to 2004 Yáñez-Barnuevo was a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Western European Union . After all, he was in the 2004 European elections to the European Parliament voted. Here he was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and its Subcommittee on Security and Defense.

From 2009 to 2014, Yáñez-Barnuevo will chair the delegation for relations with Mercosur countries.

He is a member of the Conference of Delegation Chairs, the Committee on Constitutional Affairs , the Subcommittee on Security and Defense and the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly.

He is a deputy in the Committee on Foreign Affairs and in the delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China.
