Luitpold Braun (born August 11, 1950 in Schongau ) is a German local politician ( CSU ) and author. From 1996 to the end of April 2008 he was the district administrator of the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau . In the CSU he was state chairman of the local political association and a member of the party executive .

Political career

Braun's political career began in 1967 when he joined the CSU. A year later he became deputy JU local chairman and member of the CSU local board of Schongau. From 1969 to 1971 Braun was JU local chairman and from 1973 (until 1987) deputy CSU local chairman. Braun took on his first political mandate in 1972 when he was elected to the city ​​council of his hometown Schongau. In 1983 he was elected first mayor of the city and, after being re-elected several times, remained in this office until 1996. The renovation of the old town of Schongau fell during his 13-year term of office. The city's infrastructure was improved through the expansion of the grammar school, the renovation of the outdoor pool and the establishment of a youth center.

After Braun as the County Council already from 1984 district council had the district Weilheim-Schongau consulted and was from September 1995 to April 1996 deputy district administrator, he was at the municipal election in March 1996 by runoff for the District selected. He took up this position on May 1, 1996. On March 3, 2002, he was re-elected for another six years with 70.2 percent.

His career in the CSU has led him to the deputy chairmanship of the CSU district association Weilheim-Schongau (since 1987) and leading positions in the local political association (from 1990 to 1994 district chairman Upper Bavaria, since 1994 state chairman) in the CSU party executive. In the 2008 election as district administrator, Luitpold Braun lost to the SPD candidate Friedrich Zeller in a runoff election with 46.28% of the vote . Braun then announced that he wanted to withdraw from politics.
