Lukardis of Oberweimar
Lukardis von Oberweimar (* around 1274 probably in Erfurt ; † March 22, 1309 in Oberweimar ) was a German Cistercian and mystic .
Life
Lukardis entered the Cistercian convent in Oberweimar in 1286 at the age of only 12 . Even sickly she became the nurse of the monastery. Mystically gifted, she immersed herself in the Passion of Christ . She is reported to have stood and lay in the shape of a cross and received the stigmata , while other people are said to have heard metallic noises as well. In addition, there are reports of mystical visions that Lukardis experienced while contemplating the conception and birth of Jesus Christ . Skeptical of her visions, she is said to have initially hidden the stigmata. Her confessor, however, encouraged her, and the external circumstances of the visions aroused strong veneration of the mystic, to whom supernatural healings were ascribed.
After her death the worship of Lukardis continued. As a result of the Reformation , worship went under. There are no more references to her grave in the former monastery church.
