geography

The village is not far from the Moritzberg on the southwest slope of the Nonnenberg . The place is located about three kilometers east-northeast of the center of Leinburg and is at an altitude of 407  m above sea level. NHN .

history

The first documentary mention dates from March 23, 1265. The document certifies that the Nuremberg burgrave Konrad sold his property in Gerhartsdorf (Gersdorf) to the Engelthal monastery .

There are several assumptions for the origin of the place name Gersdorf. One of them derives the name from the highest peak of the Nonnenberg, the Geierstein. Another relates to the earlier cultivation of barley in the area. And a third interpretation creates a connection with the first name Gerhard.

From 1504 Gersdorf belonged to the land of the imperial city of Nuremberg . In 1806 Bavaria became a kingdom and the imperial city of Nuremberg and its entire area were annexed by it.

Due to the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century , Gersdorf became an independent rural municipality with the second municipal edict, which also included the villages of Gersberg and Pötzling , as well as the hamlet of Reuth . In the course of the municipal territorial reform carried out in Bavaria in the 1970s , the municipality of Gersdorf was incorporated into the municipality of Leinburg on May 1, 1978. In 1987 Gersdorf had 375 inhabitants.

traffic

The connection to the public road network is mainly made by the state road 2404 , which, coming from the south of Oberhaidelbach , runs directly through the town and continues in a northerly direction to Gersberg. Local roads branch off from this street, which connect Gersdorf with the neighboring village of Pötzling to the west and the Entenberg , which is about two kilometers east-southeast .
