Weißenbrunn is one of 17 officially named districts of the community of Leinburg in Middle Franconia .

geography

The village is north of Ernhofen , south of Entenberg and Oberhaidelbach , and southeast of Winn and southwest of Klingenhof . The village is located about four and a half kilometers southeast of Leinburg, at an altitude of 436  m above sea level. NHN . and is crossed by the stream of the Berglesgraben . The Altdorf / Leinburg motorway exit (Heilbronn-Amberg A 6 ), west-southwest of Weißenbrunn, is around three and a half kilometers away.

history

The first written mention of the place took place in the 13th century. About half a kilometer north of Weißenbrunn there was a village called Balgern in the Middle Ages , which in 1360 still consisted of six estates. In 1509 it was reported that the place had become deserted.

As a result of the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century , Weißenbrunn became an independent rural municipality with the second municipal edict, which also included the villages of Ernhofen and Winn. In the course of the communal territorial reform carried out in Bavaria in the 1970s , the community of Weißenbrunn was incorporated into the community of Leinburg on May 1, 1978 together with its districts. In 1993 Weißenbrunn had 751 inhabitants.

The connection to the public road network is mainly made by the district road LAU 6 , which crosses the place from the state road St 2240 coming from the west in an easterly direction. Local roads branch off from this street, which connect Weißenbrunn with the neighboring towns of Ernhofen and Winn.

economy

Up until the beginning of the 20th century, the Weißenbrunn, which was then strongly characterized by agriculture, was mainly grown for hops, potatoes and grain. In the meantime, however, the majority of the employed residents commute to work in the greater Nuremberg area , while only a few craft businesses have been able to establish themselves in the town itself.

Culture and sights

In Weißenbrunn there are some houses that are designated as architectural monuments . Also worth mentioning is the natural swimming pool, whose water inlet is the Berglesgraben stream that rises east of the village. The bathroom was extensively renovated, designed to be natural and reopened in 2012.

In the surrounding area there are some pre-Christian sites as well as numerous silver sand caves . The most famous of these is the Heidenloch, about one kilometer east of the town center.

Sports

Weißenbrunn owns a soccer club and has three soccer and three tennis courts. There is also a table tennis club and a dance group.
