Lukas Hermann Heller (born July 21, 1930 in Kiel , † November 2, 1988 in London ) was a German-British screenwriter.

Life

Lukas Heller and his parents had to flee Nazi Germany as Jews and emigrated to England. After several attempts to gain a foothold in different professions, he came to film. In 1959, he distinguished himself as a writer of additional dialogue for the film The Sapphire Girl, directed by Basil Dearden . 1962 followed with the psychological thriller What really happened to Baby Jane? Heller's first script, which for him also meant his breakthrough: The book was filmed by Robert Aldrich and with Joan Crawford and Bette Davis and is now considered a classic. Aldrich also directed Heller's book for the adventure film The Flight of the Phoenix , the war film The Dirty Dozen and the mystery thriller Lullaby for a Corpse . These films were also enormous successes. Heller's later works could no longer build on his great successes.

Heller's children are the writer Zoë Heller and the screenwriter Bruno Heller .
