Lukas first became canon in 1569 and in 1577 belonged to the Protestant wing of the party in the cathedral chapter . As the successor of Rudolf von Münster, he received the archdeaconate Stadtlohn on March 12, 1581 and the obedience of Schwienhorst the following year . In 1587 he came into the possession of Schöneflieth Castle , which had played an important role for the canons of the Anabaptists .

His election as Provost fell on March 5, 1587. A few days later, on March 14, he asked the cathedral chapter not to burden him with the office. Still, it confirmed the election on April 14th. On June 8, 1587, he received instructions from the Elector Ernst von Cologne , who was strictly devoted to Catholicism and was considered to be its protective power, to be an embassy .
