Lukas Weichenrieder

Luke Weichenrieder OSB (* as Klaus Weichenrieder on 9. August 1944 in Nuremberg ) from 1982 to 2004, the fifth and last Abbot of the 1922 re-founded monastery of the Benedictine in Weingarten in Upper Swabia .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1967, Weichenrieder studied Slavic Studies at the Theresianum late-career seminar in Bamberg . On March 25, 1969, he made his profession in Weingarten . He was ordained a priest on August 8, 1976.

He was elected abbot on March 11, 1982 by the community of monks of the Weingarten monastery. During his 22-year tenure as abbot, 23 monks left the monastery. Some had lived there for 10 or 20 years.

Abbot Lukas resigned from his office in 2004 for “health reasons” .
