Lukas von Bostel

Lukas von Bostel (also Lucas , also von Borstel ; born October 11, 1649 in Hamburg ; † July 15, 1716 ibid) was a German poet and lawyer. He also worked as a librettist and mayor of Hamburg .

Life

Lukas von Bostel was born in Hamburg in 1649 as the son of a silk merchant and councilor. He attended the academic high school in Hamburg. In 1670 he began his law studies at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg ; later he moved to Leiden , where he received his doctorate in law in 1674.

After his studies, Bostel went on a five-year educational journey that took him through almost all of Europe. In 1679, after returning to his hometown, Bostel became a member of the aristocratic council party.

From 1682 to 1683, Bostel was the chairman of the lower court . In 1686 he was elected city syndic. In 1709 he was elected mayor.

As a co-author, Lukas von Bostel contributed significantly to the creation of the Hamburg constitution (1710–1712).
