Luke Carelse (born July 19, 1993 in Cape Town ) is a South African ice hockey player who has played for the Cape Town Penguins in the Western Provinces Ice Hockey League since 2011 .

Career

Luke Carelse began his career in his hometown of Cape Town with the Cape Town Eagles . In 2011, the defender moved to the Cape Town Penguins from the Western Provinces Ice Hockey League , one of the regional leagues whose winners play the South African championship, for which he has played since then.

International

Carelse was first on the ice at the U-18 World Championships in 2009 , 2010 and 2011 for his home country in Division III.

He made his debut in the men's national team as a 17-year-old at the 2011 World Cup in Division III, when his team finished second behind Israel at the home tournament in Cape Town and thus achieved promotion to Division II together with the Israelis. There they were largely without a chance in the following year and had to accept immediate relegation after five defeats in five games. In 2013 Carelse was again in Division III and again on the ice in his hometown. As hopeless as the South Africans had been in Division II in the previous year, they now dominated Division III: five wins from five games, including a 15-0 win against the United Arab Emirates , meant a renewed promotion to Division II. There he played with the Springboks in 2014 and 2015 .
