Lulworth Military Range

The 30 sq km Lulworth Ranges between Wareham and Lulworth Cove on the peninsula Isle of Purbeck in the county of Dorset , in England . The property is owned by the UK Department of Defense and forms part of the Armored Fighting Vehicles Gunnery School.

The site is approximately 10 kilometers west of Swanage and approximately 15 kilometers east of Dorchester .

Tanks and other armored vehicles are used in this area, and grenades are fired. For security reasons, entry is only permitted when the army site is not in use. Large red flags fly in the area and warning lights flash on Bindon Hill and St Alban's Head when the area is in use.

Lulworth Military Range lies within an Area of ​​Outstanding Natural Beauty and extends along the coast between the bays of Lulworth and Kimmeridge and is part of the so-called Jurassic Coast . The coast and cliffs along this section of the English Channel coast are among the natural wonders of the world. From Orcombe Point to Old Harry Rocks , a 155 km long coastline, the first natural landscape in England of extending UNESCO for World Heritage declared.

Access to the area is only possible on foot, either via the coastal path or from the car parks at Lulworth Castle or Tyneham . The walks and the coastal path are open on weekends, but only on a few days of the week. Visitors are warned to stay on the footpath. These paths are cleared by duds.

In the Lulworth Range there is an electrically operated target train on narrow gauge tracks . The tracks are laid in the form of two nested circles and a branch track to form a four-track storage shed.
