Lupine the Third - Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna ( Japanese LUPINE the Third - 峰 不二 子 と い う 女 - ) is an anime television series from TMS Entertainment from 2012. It belongs to the Lupine III series and was also known internationally as Lupine the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine . The plot of the adventure, drama and crime series revolves around the thief Fujiko Mine , a supporting character in the main series.

The episodes each tell an adventure of the thief Fujiko Mine, who either tries to steal the valuable object of her desire on her own initiative, or is commissioned to steal or protect an object. The stories also tell of their first encounters with the other important characters from Lupine III : Lupine himself, the samurai Goemon Ishikawa and the shooter Daisuke Jigen.

Production and publication

The series was created on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Lupine III series . It was produced under the direction of Sayo Yamamoto at TMS Entertainment . The concept comes from Mari Okada . Takeshi Koike did the character design and Seiki Tamura was the artistic director . Takashi Miyano was responsible for further designs . The executive producer was Seiji Okuda .

The 13 episodes, each 25 minutes long, were shown from April 4 to June 27, 2012 by NTV in Japan. Funimation Entertainment simulcast the series and released an English dubbed version. The anime has also been translated into French and Italian.

In June 2014, Lupine the IIIrd: Jigen Daisuke no Bohyō, an anime film for the series, was released. A second followed with Lupine the IIIrd: Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon in February 2017. In May 2019 the third part was released with Lupine the IIIrd: Mine Fujiko no Uso . Each of the films is between 50 and 60 minutes long.

The music of the television series was composed by Naruyoshi Kikuchi , music producer was Shinichirō Watanabe . The opening credits are underlaid with the song New Wuthering Heights by Naruyoshi Kikuchi y Pepe Tormento Azcarar feat. Ichiko Hashimoto . The end credits song is Nikiie's Duty Friend .

The anime and its director Sayo Yamamoto won the award for best newcomer at the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2012 . Otaku USA magazine named the series the most stylistically innovative and thus one of the best of the year. The Japanese DVD release sold over 1,400 copies and the Blu-ray over 2,800 copies.
