Luppitt is a village and civil parish in East Devon , about 6 km north of Honiton .

geography

Southeast of the village of Luppitt is the hamlet of Beacon at the southernmost point of Hartridge Hill . Further south on the Dumpdon Hill , a hill fort .

Luppitt borders Dunkeswell to the west and northwest . In the north, the point of the district meets Hemyock and Clayhidon . Neighboring to the northeast is Upottery . To the southeast is Monkton . The southern tip of Luppitt meets Honiton. Combe Raleigh borders Luppitt to the southwest .

The Parish is drained by the River Otter , which also forms the boundary to the southeast and some of its tributaries. The municipal area is thus in the catchment area of ​​the English Channel .

Personalities

The historian William Harris was a preacher in the Presbyterian village chapel from 1741 to 1770 .

Towards the end of his life, the painter Robert Polhill Bevan (1865-1925) owned the little house called Marlpits on Luppitt Common, where he painted numerous views of the area.
