The listed Luther House stands at the Luther Place 7 in Schmalkalden , a town in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen of Thuringia .

Martin Luther lived here in 1537 during a meeting of the Schmalkaldic League . A colored plaque with an inscription from 1687 commemorates the conference. The three-storey half - timbered house , which essentially dates from around 1520, consists of a front building and the rear building, which was built around 1365. The to Lutherplatz gable continuous front building with a hipped roof covered. The house was changed in the 17th century. During the restorations in 1982 and 1995/96, major changes were made to the fabric of the building . The wooden framework has quarter-circle foot arches. On the ground floor wall of the gable is the building owner's house mark from 1538, including a round mark framed by three cannon balls . On the second floor there is a fully plastic swan in front of a plaque with the coats of arms of Luther and Melanchthon.
