Lutz Forster

Lutz Förster (born January 2, 1953 in Solingen ) is a German ballet dancer and dance teacher.

Life

Förster received his dance training at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen , among others with Hans Züllig and Jean Cébron . Förster was a member of the Folkwang Dance Studio until 1978 , after which he switched to Pina Bausch's Tanztheater Wuppertal , where he had been dancing since 1975. From April 2013 to 2016 he was artistic director.

In the season 1981/1982 and 1984 to 1986 Förster worked in New York City , mainly for the Dance Company of José Limón , where he danced in choreographies by Limón, Anna Sokolow and Meredith Monk .

In addition to his work in Wuppertal, he also worked freelance with Robert Wilson in productions for La Scala in Milan and in 1988 in Cosmopolitan Greetings at the Hamburg State Opera .

Förster has been professor for contemporary dance since 1991 and responsible for the dance course at the Folkwang University of the Arts . He stopped teaching while he was artistic director of the Wuppertal Pina Bausch dance theater from 2013 to summer 2016.

His appearance in the play Nelken , in which he accompanied the song " The Man I Love ", sung by Sophie Tucker , with sign language for the deaf and dumb, remained a special memory of the audience . Since the Spring Dance Festival 2008 in Utrecht he has appeared on international stages with his biographical solo piece "Portrait of a Dancer", in which he also portrays his relationship with Pina Bausch.
