Lutz Schumacher

Lutz Schumacher (born January 13, 1968 in Diepholz ) is a German journalist . He became known as a media maker and as an author of satirical works about trains and car traffic.

Act

Schumacher studied business administration (diploma and master's) at the University of Wismar and volunteered as an editor. Workstations were u. a. DeutschlandRadio , RTL and the Westfälische Rundschau . For several years he was editor-in-chief and member of the management of the New Media section at ProSieben Media AG.

Schumacher has been Managing Director of Schwäbisch Media in Ravensburg (Schwäbische Zeitung) since 2020. From 2007 to the end of 2019 he was managing director and for several years also editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Nordkurier in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Before that, he managed the business of the Münsterschen Zeitung and was in charge of a number of projects at the parent publisher of "MZ", the Dortmunder Ruhr Nachrichten . From 1999 to 2005 he headed the Berlin news agency ddp Deutscher Depeschendienst as managing director and editor-in-chief.

The railroad satire "enken ju vor träwelling " , written together with Die Zeit journalist Mark Spörrle , was one of the best-selling non-fiction books in 2008 and was on the bestseller list in Spiegel for almost the entire year . In the imitation tone of a guide, the book describes traveling by train in Germany as tough survival training. The follow-up volume, New Tips for Survival on the Railroad , pokes fun at the management and the planned IPO of the transport company. The second part of Senk ju vor träwelling did not match the success of the first work, but remained in the top 50 of the best-selling non-fiction books for around 30 weeks after publication. Unlucky Grützner gets from one traffic disaster to the next and regularly fails due to car technology, navigation systems, the search for a parking space and gas station. It again draws on the character Harald Grützner, who this time gets to know the horrors of German company life as an office worker at the headquarters of a confectionery group. His last published work is Actually I just wanted a toaster , a malicious tirade against the digitization of everyday life and the omnipresent smartphones.

Schumacher is chairman of the Nordkurier readers' aid association, a non-profit organization that helps innocent people in need. For the Federal Association of Newspaper Publishers (BDZV) Schumacher also sits on two appeal committees of the German Press Council . He is also involved in the non-profit music society Neue Philharmonie gGmbH and as a founder and board member of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival Foundation based in Schwerin.
