Lwiwska gaseta or Lvivska gazeta ( Ukrainian Львівська газета , German: Lemberger Zeitung) is a supraregional Ukrainian daily newspaper that appears five times a week in the Ukrainian language in Lviv , western Ukraine . The newspaper and its online version are mainly read in western Ukraine (Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk , Ternopil , Lutsk , Chernivtsi , Rivne , Uzhhorod and Khmelnytskyi ) and in Kiev .

profile

The newspaper provides information on current events in domestic and international politics. The most important events are always accompanied by an editorial comment. Since 2004 there has also been a partnership with the renowned Kiev journal Zerkalo nedeli .

The newspaper has its own foreign correspondents in Gdansk , Moscow and Bonn . Nevertheless, the newspaper remains very committed to local reporting. It is therefore often the case that events of local or regional importance displace the national or international headlines in the lead story.

history

The paper was founded in 2002 by two Lviv entrepreneurs, former participants in the so-called "Student Revolution" in 1990, which is reflected in a very critical attitude (as with most Lviv newspapers) to the presidency of Kuchma and in support of the " Orange Revolution " has manifested. This critical attitude was also the reason for the massive pressure of the state authorities on the newspaper in the period from 2003 to 2004, which led to a temporary editorial closure. After the change of power during the Orange Revolution , the newspaper remained at a critical distance from the new rulers. This also applied to the subsequent government.
