The castle Payrsberg rises west of Nalles and northwest of Bolzano in South Tyrol . It lies on a rock head that slopes steeply on three sides. The fourth side, on the other hand, is very unfavorable and was secured with extensive porches .
The old building stock from the 13th century includes the characteristic, formerly habitable keep , which has a large semicircular opening on the top floor. The outer works and corner rondelles, however, were only created in the 16th century .
In 1244 the complex came to the Lords of Boymont -Payrsberg and their successors, the Beetles of Boymont , who owned them until 1791, together with their newly built houses in Oberpayrsberg and Unterpayrsberg . Extensive archive holdings , today at the South Tyrolean Provincial Archives , testify to the extent of the earlier possessions and rights.
The oldest building stock in Payrsberg is poorly preserved and urgently needs consolidation measures, while the parts from the 16th century are in an acceptable state of preservation.
