Rametz Castle

Rametz Castle is a castle complex in the Labers district of Merano ( South Tyrol ).

history

The core of the buildings goes back to an estate and was owned by the Counts of Ulten , a sideline of the Counts of Eppan , from 1227 to 1269 . Allegedly at the end of the 14th century the estate was made a noble seat by the von Rametz family. After its extinction in 1497, the Quaranta, Planta, Travers-Ortenburg and Paravicini families owned the castle. In 1834 the ophthalmologist Franz Flarer bought the property and fundamentally rebuilt it by 1872. On the mezzanine floor there is still a late Gothic room, on the first floor a room with Renaissance panels and coffered ceiling (around 1596).

The vineyards of Schloss Rametz occupied since the year 1227th In the 19th century he started growing Pinot Noir in South Tyrol. Today it houses a winery, a viticulture museum and a bacon museum.
