Neuhaus Castle near Gais in Taufers , South Tyrol , not to be confused with Neuhaus Castle near Terlan , was built in the 12th century by the Lords of Taufers . Other experts claim that it was built in the 13th century as part of a dispute with the Rodankers. After the Lords of Taufers died out, it went to the Counts of Gorizia-Tirol . The late medieval poet composer Oswald von Wolkenstein is documented from 1422 as the keeper (administrator) of the castle, who held it as pledge of the Counts of Gorizia until around 1426.

The castle is privately owned and is now used as a restaurant and hotel.
