Schloss Korb ( Italian Castel Corba ) is a castle in the Eppan district of Missian in the Überetsch region in South Tyrol . It is located below the Boymont castle ruins .

history

The quadrangular residential tower was built before 1236 (first mentioned) by the Lords of Korb, ministers of the Counts of Eppan . In 1314 the facility is described in a Latin document from the Bolzano Heiliggeistspital as "from the Chorbe de Eppianno" . From the 14th century Korb was a fiefdom in the hands of various Tyrolean noble families (including the Feigensteiner, the Fuchs von Fuchsberg and the Fieger , 1637) until it was withdrawn in 1802 when it was disintegrated by the princely chamber. The Bolzano trader Johann Putzer von Reibegg acquired the ruins in 1839 and subsequently initiated a castle-like, romanticizing conversion into a residential building crowned with ornamental battlements and the construction of the chapel. The crenellated residential tower is now covered with a pyramid roof. There are domed Romanesque double windows on the sides. In 1877, the Teßmann family from Greifswald acquired the property. Their son Friedrich Teßmann was born at Schloss Korb and was a well-known history researcher in Tyrol. After him, the state library “Dr. Friedrich Teßmann ” in Bolzano.

Todays use

Today, Korb Castle is a luxury hotel with a restaurant, tennis courts and swimming pool. The plant has been the headquarters of the Dellago family since 1918, with their own wine and fruit growing. Fritz Dellago bought a bunker that is right next to the castle. This was built as part of the Alpine Wall at the time of Mussolini's reign . The bunker was rebuilt and now serves as a wine cellar and as a location for events and art exhibitions.
