Ehrenburg Castle (South Tyrol)

The Schloss Ehrenburg is located in the same village Ehrenburg in Chienes in Puster Valley on the left bank of the Rienza . It was owned by Count Künigl for around 700 years .

The history of the castle goes back to the 12th century. The eastern part was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1732 .

In 2010 the castle was sold by the Künigl family after a lengthy public discussion due to inheritance issues. The new owner is Ingomar Gatterer, a bus operator from Pusteria.

The important aristocratic archive in Künigl was sold to the South Tyrolean Provincial Archives in the 1990s .
