The Fahlburg - built in the 13th century as a fortified castle - is a residence in Prissian . It lies above the Etschtal in the Tisner low mountain range .

history

The original Fahlburg, which like the neighboring fortified castle belonged to the Lords of Andrian-Werburg , was converted into a residence in 1615 . Only the residential tower still comes from the old castle from the 13th century. Oswald von Wolkenstein was imprisoned and tortured here in 1421.

In 1597 Jakob Andrä von Brandis bought the Fahlburg, expanded the complex and had an elegant, stately Renaissance mansion built on part of the old castle walls. The former castle served the owners as a summer and court seat. The famous "History of the Governors of Tyrol" was written here, which is how Tyrolean historiography began.

The property is still owned by the family of the Counts of Brandis and has retained its original character. Old tiled stoves, wooden ceilings and a two-story chapel as well as paintings by the Baroque painter Stephan Kessler from the late Renaissance have been preserved.
