Dornsberg Castle (also Tarantsberg ) is a castle at the foot of the Nördersberg near Naturns in Vinschgau ( South Tyrol ).

history

The nobles of Tarant (also Lords of Torand or Partschins ) began building Tarantsberg Castle in 1217 , which was to become their family seat. In 1232 the name Dorenberch also appears . The Ursulakapelle was probably built between 1270 and 1280. Engelmar, Ulrich and Hanns Tarant lost the favor of the Tyrolean rulers and had to sell the castle. According to Burglechner , Arnold von Tarant had already sold the castle to Count Meinhard von Tirol in 1291 for 226 marks Berner .

In 1347 Heinrich von Annenberg bought the castle, now called Dornsberg , from Ulrich von Reichenberg and Katharina von Waldeck .

From 1699 the castle was owned by the Counts of Mohr, who later bequeathed it to the barons Giovanelli and Fuchs .
