The castle ruin Voitsberg is a castle near Vahrn in South Tyrol that has been preserved in a few remains of the wall .

geography

The ruin is located in the Eisack Valley , in the vicinity of Vahrn and the Salern castle ruins .

history

The castle was probably built around 1173 by the nobles or lords of St. Michaels-Tor as a place of refuge in times of war. The castle was then besieged and destroyed by Bruno von Kirchberg in 1277 .

Status

There are few remains of the wall in regular layers of field stone masonry , some without mortar . These can be viewed. Presumably for reasons of space, the complex consisted only of a strong, multi-storey keep and a kennel . Most of the masonry was probably used in the 17th century to convert an inn and for the walls of the vineyards .
