Johannes Rech

Johannes Rech (born April 24, 1936 in Taura ; † October 2, 1987 ) was a German politician ( SED ), youth and sports functionary.

Life

Rech, son of a worker, learned the trade of bricklayer . In 1950 he joined the Free German Youth (FDJ) and in 1955 the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From 1955 to 1958 he served in the barracked People's Police and the National People's Army . From 1958 to 1960 he worked as a clerk, from 1960 to 1961 as deputy chairman of the Bautzen district planning commission . From 1961 to 1963 he was the first secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Bautzen.

After studying at the Komsomol University in Moscow , he served from 1964 to 1966 as first secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Dresden . Then he was secretary of the Central Council of the FDJ until October 1973, responsible for culture and sport. From 1967 to 1971 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR. There he was chairman of the FDJ parliamentary group and a member of the committee for national defense.

From 1967 Rech was also a member of the Presidium of the Federal Board of the German Gymnastics and Sports Federation (DTSB) and acted as Vice President of the DTSB from 1973 to 1985, responsible for agitation and propaganda . Rech most recently held the function of an embassy counselor at the GDR embassy in the Republic of Iraq . He died unexpectedly at the age of 51.

Rech was awarded the Bronze Patriotic Order of Merit in 1976 and the Order of the Banner of Labor Level II in 1986 .
