Lycium decumbens is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
description
Lycium decumbens is a small, up to 0.2 m high, prostrate dwarf shrub that is armed with spines . Its leaves are succulent , hairless, 15 to 20 mm long and 3 to 5 mm wide.
The flowers are hermaphroditic and five-fold. The calyx is tubular, its calyx-tube is 4 to 5 mm long and covered with 1 to 1.5 mm long calyx tips. The crown is hemispherical to ovate and spreading. It is creamy white in color and has purple corolla lobes and dark purple veins. The corolla tube becomes 6 to 8 mm long, the corolla lobes 3 mm. The base of the stamens is densely tomentose.
The fruit is an orange-red, spherical berry that becomes 4 mm long and wide.
Occurrence
The species is widespread on the African continent and occurs there in northern Namibia and southern Angola .
Systematics
According to molecular biological studies, the species is most closely related to Lycium pumilum . Both are classified in a large monophyletic clade of ancient species of the genus, but the exact relationships within the clade are still unclear.
