Sulcorebutia purpurea is a species of plant in the genus Sulcorebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Sulcorebutia purpurea grows solitary with depressed spherical grass-green bodies. These reach heights of 3 to 4 centimeters with a diameter of 4 to 9 centimeters and have a beet root. The ribs are completely divided into cusps and can no longer be seen. The areoles on it are elongated to oval. The light brown to reddish brown or whitish thorns arising from them are very strong, stiffly protruding to a little spread out and bent towards the body. There are 4 to 6 central spines 12 to 18 millimeters long. The 8 to 10 radial spines are 10 to 14 millimeters long.

The purple-red to slightly purple-red or dark red flowers are up to 2 to 3 centimeters long and have a diameter of 3 to 4.5 centimeters. The fruits are reddish brown and have a diameter of 7 to 10 millimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Sulcorebutia purpurea is widespread in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba in the province of Mizque .

The first description as Weingartia purpurea was published in 1974 by John Donald Donald (1923-1996) and Alfred Bernhard Lau . John Donald Donald and Arnold J. Brederoo (1917-1999) placed it in 1981 in the genus Sulcorebutia . A synonym is Cinnabarinea purpurea (Donald & ABLau) F.Ritter .
