Mizque is one of sixteen provinces in the central southern part of the Bolivian department of Cochabamba . "Mizqui" is a Quetschua word and means "sweet, mild" .

location

The province lies on the plateau between the Bolivian Cordillera Oriental and Cordillera Central and extends south to the Río Grande . It borders in the northwest with the province of Punata , in the west with the province Esteban Arce , in the southwest with the department Potosí , in the southeast with the province Narciso Campero , in the northeast with the province Carrasco , and in the north with the province Arani .

The province extends roughly between 17 ° 41 'and 18 ° 25' south latitude and 65 ° 40 'and 66 ° 16' west longitude, its extent from west to east is 60 kilometers, from north to south 90 kilometers.

climate

Average temperature 16 to 18 ° C in the valley, cooler in the mountains; 300 to 700 mm of precipitation, rainy season from December to March

economy

Agriculture is the most important branch of the economy. The main crops are: potatoes, corn, wheat, barley, peanuts, onions, and recently also carrots.

According to statistics from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the income of the Mizqueos, i.e. H. of residents of the province, at around US $ 1,100 per capita per year, with around two thirds being very poor and almost half being illiterate.

At least with regard to income, considerable doubts can be raised, because a family of 5 would have to earn more than US $ 5000, which in the best of cases could apply to a few families. For example, a teacher earns less than US $ 200 a month, an agronomist US $ 300, and individual traders may make a little more. Perhaps the Vila Vila mines are pushing up average earnings.

population

The population of the province of Mizque has increased by almost a third in the past two decades, but has recently stagnated:
