The Municipio Mizque is a district in the Department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Municipio Mizque is one of three Municipios in the Province of Mizque . It is bordered to the northwest by the Municipio Alalay , to the west by the Municipio Vila Vila , to the southwest and south by the Department of Potosí , to the east by the Province of Narciso Campero , and to the northeast and north by the Province of Carrasco .

The central place of the municipality is Mizque with 3,474 inhabitants (2012 census) in the eastern part of the municipality.

geography

Mizque lies between the mountain ranges of the Bolivian Cordillera Oriental and the Cordillera Central . It lies at an average altitude of 2000  m and extends at heights of almost 4000 meters, with the Cerro Kotori (3798 m) and the Cerro Apacheta Alto (3710 m). The mountainous country covers more than two thirds of the total area (1211 km²), while the valley plains make up only 6 percent of the area (104 km²).

The climate is characterized by year-round spring-like temperatures and low rainfall. The annual average temperature of the region is around 20 ° C (see climate diagram) and an annual precipitation of 550 mm. The warmest month is November with an average temperature of a good 22 ° C, the coldest months are June and July with around 17 ° C. From April to October the dry season prevails with precipitation below 25 mm, the wettest months in the long-term average are the months December to February with more than 100 mm.

The population density of the municipality at the last census in 2012 was 15.4 inhabitants / km², the proportion of the urban population was 13.0 percent. The life expectancy of newborns was only 52.2 years in 2001, but has increased significantly in recent years.

The literacy rate among those over 19 was 57.5 percent in 2001, namely 71.9 percent for men and 43.8 percent for women. Large-scale national literacy campaigns since 2007 have also fundamentally improved this situation in Mizque.
