The municipality of Alalay is a district in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality of Alalay is one of three municipalities in the province of Mizque . It borders the province of Punata to the northwest , the province of Esteban Arce to the southwest , the municipality of Vila Vila to the south, the municipality of Mizque to the east, the province of Carrasco to the northeast , and the province of Arani to the north .
The central place of the municipality is Alalay with 324 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the northwestern part of the district.
geography
The municipality of Alalay is located in the northwestern part of the Cordillera Oriental , the easternmost mountain range of the Bolivian high mountains.
The climate of the region is characterized by a typical time of day climate , in which the daily temperature fluctuations are more pronounced than the seasonal fluctuations. The annual average temperature is 12 ° C (see Vacas climate diagram), temperatures in the winter months of June / July are just under 10 ° C and in November / December a little more than 14 ° C. The annual precipitation is 550 mm and reaches values of 100 to 120 mm in the summer months from December to February, while in the arid months from May to September hardly any precipitation falls.
"Alalay" is Quechua and means "cold", which indicates the cold and dry climate of the region.
