The flowers are five-fold. The calyx is tubular, the calyx tube is 2.5 to 3.5 mm long. The calyx lobes are 0.5 to 0.8 mm long. The fruit is a red, egg-shaped berry that reaches a length of 5 to 6 mm and a width of 3 mm.

Occurrence

The species is widespread on the African continent and occurs in southern Namibia .

Systematics

Molecular biological studies place the species in a clade with various species native to Africa and the only Australian species. One clade that was strongly supported by the study consists of Lycium gariepense , this Australian species Lycium australe and the species Lycium tenue that occurs in South Africa .
