Lycium leiostemum is a plant species from the genus of the buckthorn ( Lycium ) inthe nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Lycium leiostemum is an upright shrub that reaches heights of 1 to 2 m. Its leaves are hairy and 2 to 10 mm long and 0.9 to 2 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphrodite and fourfold. The calyx is bell-shaped and hairy. The calyx tube becomes 1.5 to 2 mm long and is covered with 0.4 to 1 mm long calyx lobes. The crown is tubular and white in color. The corolla tube becomes 10 to 14 mm long, the corolla lobes 1.5 to 2.5 mm. The stamens are hairy on the lower 2 to 4 mm of the base.

The fruit is a spherical to egg-shaped berry that has a constriction. It becomes 4 to 5 mm long and 3 to 4 mm wide. Four to five seeds are formed per ovary compartment .

Occurrence

The species occurs in Peru in the Cusco region and in northern Chile .
