Lycium mascarenense is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

Lycium mascarenense is up to 1 m high, prostrate, tangled, branched and densely leafed shrub . The leaves are succulent , hairless and 6 to 10 mm long and 1 to 3 mm wide.
The flowers are hermaphroditic and five-fold. The calyx is bell-shaped, its calyx tube is 2.5 to 3 mm long and is covered with 0.5 to 0.75 mm long calyx lobes. The crown is hemispherical and splayed. It is colored white, the corolla lobes are white to pale purple. The corolla tube reaches a length of 5 to 7 mm, the corolla lobes are 2 to 3 mm long. The base of the stamens is densely tomentose.
The fruit is an egg-shaped, red berry that is 4 to 5 mm long and 4 mm wide.
Occurrence
The species is distributed in Madagascar , the Mascarene Islands and the African continent and occurs there in South Africa in the province of KwaZulu-Natal , as well as in Mozambique .
