Lycium minimum is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
description
Lycium minimum is a tall, upright shrub that reaches heights of 1 to 2 m. Its leaves are hairless, 3 to 13 mm long and 0.5 to 1 mm wide.
The flowers are hermaphrodite and fourfold. The calyx is tubular and hairless. The calyx tube has a length of 2 mm and is covered with 0.5 to 1.8 mm long calyx teeth. The crown is funnel-shaped and colored white-cream. The corolla tube is 2.5 to 3.5 mm long, the corolla lobes 1.2 to 2 mm. The stamens are hairless.
The fruit is an orange, spherical berry with a length of 3 mm and a width of 2 mm. Each fruit contains two pyrenees with one seed each .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48.
Occurrence
The species occurs in the Galapagos Islands .
Systematics
Molecular biological studies place the species as a sister species to Lycium athium . Both species have stone fruit-like fruits with two seeds, as they occur in a similar way in the not closely related species Lycium californicum and Lycium ameghinoi . In the latter, however, the fruits are completely woody, which does not occur with Lycium athium and Lycium minimum .
