Lydia Clarke

Lydia Marie Clarke Heston (born April 14, 1923 in Two Rivers , Wisconsin - † September 3, 2018 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American actress and photographer . She gained fame as the wife of actor Charlton Heston , with whom she worked several times in the course of her career.

Life

Lydia Marie Clarke was born in Two Rivers in 1923. She began her career as a photographer before she met the actor Charlton Heston in 1944 and married a little later. The marriage lasted until Heston's death in April 2008. The couple had two children together.

Through her husband, Clarke became an actress herself in 1950. In addition to guest roles in television series, she also worked as a supporting actress in several of her husband's films, including 1952 as a circus girl in the semi-documentary film The Biggest Show in the World . In the 1952 thriller The City of a Thousand Perils , Clarke starred in the female lead. It remained her biggest and most famous film appearance.

In 1953, Clark took on a supporting role in the melodrama Bad for Each Other . In 1968 she played in a supporting role as Mrs. Fraker in the western The Daring as a film partner of William Schallert . She has also appeared as a guest star on several television series and shows, including two episodes of Westinghouse Studio One in 1950 and 1952 . Clarke had her last film appearance in 2003 in the television documentary Lasting Love , for which she was interviewed with her husband.

After the end of her acting career, Lydia Clarke worked in the Camera and Electrical Department as a still photographer in the 1971 literary adaptation of The Omega Man and in the 1982 adventure film Goldfieber . Charlton Heston played the lead role in both films.

Lydia Clarke died on September 3, 2018 at the age of 95 at UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica. The cause of death was complications from pneumonia . She was buried at her husband's side in a columbarium at Saint Matthews Episcopal Church in Pacific Palisades .
