Lydia Hauenschild
Lydia Hauenschild (born December 5, 1957 in Deggendorf ) is a German writer who is best known for her books about and for children and young people.
Life
After graduating from high school in mathematics and science at Comenius-Gymnasium Deggendorf , Hauenschild, whose father owned a farm, studied agricultural sciences at the University of Göttingen from 1977 to 1981 . She graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering and worked in this profession until 1984. Hauenschild got into writing through the birth of her twins (* 1985). Since there was no guide for future twin parents on the book market, she wrote it herself. Since this first book project, Hauenschild has been a full-time freelance writer for several publishers.
The focus is on non-fiction and stories for children. In 1993, Hauenschild received a grant from the Bertelsmann Foundation for the seminar on advanced training for screenwriters in the field of children's and youth literature. So far she has published 65 books - 3 for adults, 8 for young people and 54 for children - with a total German circulation of around 900,000 copies. Several of her books have been translated into Danish, Norwegian , Korean , Czech , Slovak , Romanian, Ukrainian, Russian, French, Turkish , Chinese or Persian (Farsi) . Numerous texts have also been published in anthologies.
Hauenschild lived from 1986 to 2016 in the Palatinate municipality of Dirmstein , where she co-founded the St. Michael Cultural Association in 1996 . Today she lives with her husband near Freiburg im Breisgau .
