Lygus gemellatus is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 5.3 to 6.1 millimeters long. They have a brownish base color. On the pronotum there are usually two black spots behind the calluses. The scutellum has a black spot in the middle of the base that appears “split”. There is a black spot on the rear edge of the corium. The tips of the Cuneus are black. The membrane is colored smoke gray. The antennae are colored yellow-brown. Only the apical end of the second antenna element is darkened. The legs are also colored yellow-brown. The femora have two black rings near their apical end. The tibiae have a row of thorns.

distribution

The type of bug is widespread in Europe. It is only missing in the British Isles and in the Far North. The species occurs in the entire Mediterranean area, including neighboring North Africa and Madeira . In the east the occurrence extends over Siberia to China.

Way of life

Lygus gemellatus prefers warm open land biotopes, mostly with sandy soil. The host and forage plants of the species include the sagebrush ( Artemisia campestris ), the mugwort ( Artemisia vulgaris ) and wormwood ( Artemisia absinthium ). There are usually two generations per year. The adults of the summer generation appear from June, those of the wintering autumn generation from September.
