Lynn Hope

Lynn Hope , actually Al Hajji Abdullah Ahmed Rascheed (* 26. September 1926 in Birmingham , Alabama ; † 24. February 1993 in Collingswood , New Jersey ) was an American rhythm-and-blues - tenor saxophonist .

Lynn Hope, a Big Jay McNeely- style tenor saxophone honkers , was a member of King Kolax's band when he graduated from Birmingham High School in the early 1940s. After leaving Kolax, he stayed in Chicago . In 1950 he had a record deal with the Miracle Records label , then he recorded the track "Tenderly" with Premium Records . which remained his only hit, reaching # 8 on R&B and # 19 on the pop charts, and was later taken over by Chess Records . He has performed with his quartet in Cleveland and the Chicago Ebony Club. He later converted to Islam , wore a turban and called himself Al Hajji Abdullah Rascheed Ahmed, but continued to perform under Lynn Hope .

For Aladdin other pieces, such as original compositions (written 1951-1957 "Blow Lynn Blow" ) and covers of well-known standards such as " September Song " (1952) and " Summertime " . In February 1957 Hope went on a tour of Egypt and the Middle East . After the last recordings for King Records ( " Body and Soul " ) and Blue Beat ( "Blue And Sentimental" ) were made in 1960 , he disappeared from the music scene and was forgotten.
