The Winged loosestrife ( Lythrum alatum ) is a plant of the genus Lythrum ( Lythrum ) in the family of Lythraceae (Lythraceae).

The winged purple loosestrife is a perennial plant that reaches heights of 50 to 120 centimeters. It forms subterranean runners. The middle and upper stem leaves are usually alternate, only the lowest are opposite. The flowers are often arranged individually in the leaf axils. There are 5 to 7 stamens. Outer and inner calyx teeth are of different lengths.
Flowering time is from June to August.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.
Occurrence
The winged purple loosestrife is found in the United States in swamps, ditches, meadows, and wet prairie locations.

The winged purple loosestrife is rarely used as an ornamental plant for water fringes. It has been in culture since 1812 at the latest.
