The class V46 is an electric shunting locomotive of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV). It is nicknamed Szöcske (grasshopper) and Csöpi , sometimes also HiFi-torony (HiFi tower).
history
At the beginning of the 1980s , the MÁV had suitable locomotives available for almost all tasks . At the electrified stations it became more economical to use an electric locomotive for shunting trips. The MÁV took the first thyristor Lok V46 in 1983 in operation. By 1991, Ganz-Mávag had produced 60 pieces , all of which are still in service today. The locomotive has a central driver's cab with two driver's cabs , which are designed so that the driver can sit on the right side in both directions.
commitment
The V46 series is used in the shunting service at various locations . In addition, the vehicles are often used in freight transport between nearby train stations. A passenger train with a V46 - apart from a service train for MÁV officials between Budapest - Ferencváros and Kőbánya Felső - is a rare exception because this locomotive does not have a heating system.
