Mary of Tasnady
Maria von Tasnady , actually Magdalena Fekete (born November 16, 1911 in Lonea , Transylvania , Austria-Hungary ; † March 16, 2001 in Munich , Bavaria ) was a Hungarian actress .
Life
Magdalena Fekete studied literary history and German at the University of Budapest and wanted to become a journalist . In 1931 she was elected Miss Hungary . The prize she won was a trip to Berlin. Here she received her first film role under the stage name "Maria von Tasnady" in Serene Highness has fun in the same year. She took acting lessons and performed at the State Theater in Oldenburg and later at the Schillertheater in Berlin.
In the following years she got leading roles in German films several times. In the propaganda film People Without a Fatherland she played a refugee girl, in the title role of the love romance Frau Sylvelin she was the neglected wife of Heinrich George . In 1939 she returned to Hungary and was able to participate in Hungarian and Italian productions.
In 1948 she left Hungary, lived in Italy and France and from 1954 in Munich. There she worked for 21 years as a spokesperson for the radio station Radio Free Europe . At times she had a residence in America.
Maria von Tasnady's first marriage was to the German producer Bruno Duday , who worked several times as a co-producer on her films. Around 1938 she married the Hungarian film director Géza von Radványi , under whose direction she acted several times.
Her grave is in the Planegg cemetery near Munich.
