The route network of the Moravian Western Railway

The Moravian Western Railway (Czech: Moravská západní dráha ) was a private railway company in Austria and its successor state, Czechoslovakia , whose routes were in what is now the Czech Republic . The main connection of the company was the Proßnitz – Trübau line in Moravia . The seat of the company was in Vienna .

history

Moravian Western Railway share over 200 guilders a.w.

On July 11, 1886, the Erlanger & Söhne bank in Frankfurt am Main received “the right to build and operate a standard-gauge local train from Proßnitz via Plumenau, Konitz, Kornitz and Mährisch Trübau to Triebitz with a branch from Kornitz via Gewitsch to Opatowitz “ Granted. Part of the concession was also the obligation to set up branch lines to Mährisch Neustadt or Hohenstadt ( Moravian border line ) and to Skalitz (Brno – Bodenbach route of the StEG ) at the request of the state administration . The basis of the concession was the Railway Concession Act of December 14, 1854 and the Act on Concessions and Benefits for Local Railways of May 25, 1880. The concessionaires were obliged to start construction of the line immediately and to complete it within two years. The duration of the concession was set at 90 years.

The capital of the stock corporation founded in 1888 totaled 3,622,200 guilders . 18,111 ordinary shares of 200 guilders each and 17,550 bonds of 200 guilders each were issued.

The line was opened on September 1, 1889. The operation was carried out by the kk State Railways (kkStB) for the account of the Moravian Western Railway.

In 1925 the Czech shoe manufacturer Tomáš Baťa acquired the majority of the shares. His goal was to expand the Moravian Western Railway as part of a new rail link between Prague and Slovakia. The Second World War ultimately prevented these plans. The company was nationalized on October 10, 1945.

The route still exists. Today they belong to the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

Locomotives

For the account of the Moravian Western Railway, the kkStB acquired seven class 92 locomotives , as they had already been procured by the Lower Austrian Southwest Railways. The locomotives had the road numbers 92.10-16. The ČSD took over all locomotives in 1918 and continued to use them on their traditional routes. In 1925 they were given the new numbers 321.001 to 321.007. The decommissioning of the vehicles began in 1929. The last one to be parked in 1939 was the 321.004. None of them remained in the museum.
