Mónika Juhász Miczura

Mónika Juhász Miczura (born November 3, 1972 in Berettyóújfalu ) is a Hungarian singer and musician , who is also known under the name Mitsou . She belongs to the Roma minority .

Life

Mónika Juhász Miczura grew up in the southeast Hungarian city of Békéscsaba near the Romanian border. As a child, she learned traditional Roma songs and dances from her mother, an ambitious singer. She attended the Mihály Horváth grammar school in Szentes and the Flóra Martos grammar school in Budapest . She had her first stage appearance at the age of sixteen in a talent competition in a school.

After moving to Budapest, Jenő Zsigó, the leader of the group Ando Drom, became aware of her and integrated her as a singer into this group, of which she was a member for eight years.

She can be heard as a singer in various films: Gadjo Dilo (1997), Je suis né d'une cigogne (1999), Vengo (2000) and Swing (2002) by Tony Gatlif and Kísértések (2002) by Zoltán Kamondi. She is also featured as a guest musician on the albums of other internationally renowned musicians: Rien Dans Les Poches (1998) by Bratsch , Can't Make Me! - nekemtenemmutogatol! (2003), Gyí! (2005) and Ha megfogom az ördögöt (Once I Catch the Devil) (2006) by Besh o droM and Queens and Kings (2007) by Fanfare Ciocărlia . She was a participant in the Global Vocal Meeting project.

Along with former members of Ando Drom she founded her own company in 2003 Mitsoura that his first album with the same title in the same year Mitsoura published. In 2008 the group's newest album Dura dura dura was released . Her music gets a special atmosphere through the use of Indian singing techniques.
