Ernst Herdi

Ernst Herdi (born December 28, 1890 in Walperswil , Switzerland; † December 5, 1974 in Bern ), entitled to live in Holziken , was a Swiss teacher and historian .

Life

Ernst Herdi studied classical philology , German literature and history in Bern and obtained his doctorate in 1916. phil. From 1917 to 1961 he was a teacher of Greek , Latin , Hebrew and ancient history at the canton school in Frauenfeld and from 1944 to 1954 its rector. From 1923 to 1949 he was also a member of the board of directors of the Historical Association of the Canton of Thurgau and from 1925 to 1967 he worked on the Thurgauer Urkundenbuch and on the Historical-Biographical Lexicon of Switzerland from 1926 to 1934.

Herdi's historiographical work captivates with original, often socially and conceptually oriented questions, sovereign source knowledge and masterful art of representation.

Herdi was married to Cécile Krebser from 1919. Their son Fritz Herdi was born in 1920.
